BOOK PUBLISHING PROCESS

A. Books

UNESCO in 1984 provides a definition of the book is: "The publication is printed, not periodic, that at least as many as 49 pages." (HG Andriese CS: Manage Publishing Book 1, Center Graphic Indonesia, 1993) If less than 49 pages, the name "brochure" not a book.

The book is a documentation of the development of human culture in writing made of sheets of paper bound and can be stored for long periods. Books began to find its form as they are now since the 1500's. People who are most instrumental in finding the technique of writing the book in a way printed by Johannes Gutenberg of Mainz circa 1450. Johannes Gutenberg invented the metal letters. These letters can be arranged in order of the words and sentences to be conveyed in the book. The composition of the letters of the metal was then used as a reference for printing and copying the books neatly and beautifully and clearly legible.

Actually, since 2000 BC has been known to man began to write what was on his mind on a variety of media such as: stone, wood, bone, skin and papyrus. At that time what they wrote is still unravel yet or not stapled. Only after the paper and printing equipment was found at about the 15th century that is, the book has found its form as it is today.

For the development of human civilization, the book has a function that is not replaceable by any other media. Book record, store, assemble, deliver and trigger any change in human civilization from generation to generation continuously. Books allow civilization and human culture inherited, learned and developed over time

Books are industrial products which have strong economic roots and are not perishable. The book has a worldwide market share with consumers unlimited. Young and old, men women, rich and poor, students or not students, all could become consumers of books. Therefore, the book publishing business there will be no death, if done correctly.

B. Process Book Publishing

The process began with planning the publication of the manuscript, script writing, manuscript assessment and copy editing the manuscript reproduce by printing and distributing it to the public.

Each publisher, certain materials generally have specialized in publishing the book. Some choose the field of religion. Some choose the field of textbooks in schools. Some choose a general book and so on. Of specialization are then developed into programs publications. This publishing program is detailed in the tangible form of manuscripts with themes that match the chosen specialization. Publishers then hunt manuscript, looking for authors who are considered able to compose texts about hard sell in the market.

Authors can write to the content and style according to the publishers' request or on its own initiative. However the authors should not ignore the general provisions that apply, for example, in Indonesia must not be contrary to the national interest as the 45 Constitution and Pancasila, must not conflict with religion, tribals, customs with aspects of education and psychology,

with the legislation in force, with appropriate disciplines, In addition, the authors had to use the Indonesian language is good and right with the selection of vocabulary and grammar are correct.

There are at least four steps in the writing of the book, namely: planning, preparation, writing and checking. Planning of the book what, for whom, the level of which, the model look like?
