A. Cost of Production

How about the right price of the book that we just print? Right price meaning not too expensive, but also not too cheap. In general, the price of a book is determined by multiplying how many times the cost of production.

As an example of calculating the selling price of a book is a book with production data as follows:

B. How to calculate

First we  calculate the cost of production of the book with the specifications as mentioned above.

The simple calculation is as follows:

1. The cost of graphic design 118 x Rp 4.000, -     : Rp    472,000, -
2. Create master 30 x 4000             : Rp    120,000, -
3. Paper ream CD 95 x Rp 20,000 -       : Rp 1.900.000.-
4. PC. folio offset machine Rp 10,000 x 30    : Rp    300.000.-
5. PC. Cover + Art Cardboard + pre printing    : Rp    500.000, -
6. Binding + cut costs Rp 500 x 3000      : Rp 1.500.000, -
7. Transport            : Rp    100.000, -  +
              : Rp 4.892.000, - (Rounded Rp 4,900,000,)

       Production costs Rp 4,900,000, -: 3000: Rp 1,633, -

In the world of book publishing in determining the price is generally about 5 times the cost of production. So the price of the book with production data like the above price are:

List price of Rp 1,633, - x 5: Rp 8,165, - (rounded Rp 8.500, -)

Why should it be five times the cost of production? This is because the system of book marketing mechanisms which have become customary in the presence of some of the posts that we must pay by a certain percentage in accordance with an agreement with each of the parties, from the authors, printing, distributors, promotion and delivery costs. For example, the percentage of the distribution is as follows:

1. Author 10% x Rp 8.500, -         = Rp    850, -
2. Distrbutor 40% x Rp 8.500, -       = Rp 3,400, -
3. The cost of production of 20% x Rp 8.500, -   = Rp 1,700, -
4. Sale and delivery of 10% x Rp 8.500, -     = Rp    850, -
6. Profit 20% x Rp 8.500, -         = Rp 1,700, -
      Total             = Rp 8.500, -

If all sold out, then the profit is 3,000 x Rp 1,700, -,  = Rp 5.100.000, -

The more circulation murahlah then the price of the book that we bandrol and advantages that we can also larger handful anyway.

As a beginner who is still very limited financially, then it would be lucky, if it has an exclusive prospective customers could be targeted sales, without going through a distributor. Consumers usually derived exclusively from its own community environment of the authors and publisher are also, for example, campus, school, organization or government agency or private. Definitely bigger profits because it does not have to be cut by 40%. Moreover, if his own works. The advantage could be 70% of the selling price of the book.
