INK PROBLEMS IN PRINTING BOOK 1

As a publisher, we have to understand also why our book quality is not satisfactory. Especially when we print the  books by our self,  then it should have been investigated exactly what causes it. Books are our merchandise. When the display of our merchandise  seem dirty and untidy, then who will interested in buying our merchandise?

When all components offset machines have been checked and everything is normal condition, there are no suspicious symptoms, but it was still dirty printouts. Another factor that is often the cause is the condition or quality of ink that does not match the type of paper we print or sub-standard. 

Printout problems caused by ink, are:

A. Tinting

There are some ink mixed into the water (water solution) and littering all pieces of paper.

The causes are :

The printing ink is too thin.

How to overcome :

Combine the condensed varnish  as Gloss Varnish  (Gloss Medium).

B. Set off

The Printing  is too thick.

The causes are:

The paper   absorb too much ink.

How to overcome :

1. Print in a thin or replace high condensed printing ink.

2. Check the color tone of printing inks and printing ink suitable substitute.

C. Chalking

The printout is erased like chalk.

The causes are :

1. Oil absorption (ink absorption) of paper is too high.

2. The Varnish in printing inks too little.

3. Used printing ink of the type that does not fit.

How to overcome :

1. Combine N.S. Compound 3-5% in printing inks.

2. Mix Varnish Gloss Medium 5-10%

3. Changing the printing ink according to the nature of the paper.

D. Scumming

Printing inks come printed on the plate that did not display (non image area).

The causes are:

1. The printing ink too liquid.

2. The printing ink is too thin.

3. Too much drier in printing inks.

How to overcome :

1. Combine the condensed varnish  as Gloss Varnish.

2. Raise the printing  ink density.

3. Reduce the number drier.

E. Hickies

Ink color on printout dirty and uneven.

The causes are:

1. Skin printing ink mixed in the ink.

2. The dust and other debris mixed in the ink.

How to overcome :

1. Before the ink loaded in the offset machine pick  the skin dried ink out of the can.

2. Clean the ink from all impurities.
